Pre-school

Pre-school activities

Prepare your children for their move to ‘big school' with the exceptional pre-school activities and learning available at EduCare in Nottingham a short distance from Beeston and Carlton.

Our pre-school room

The pre-school aims is to prepare children for their move to ‘big school'. We provide an environment that offers a balance between learning through play and structured educational activities.

The children enjoy the numerous creative activities on offer, particularly when they work on projects in small groups! The mess is tremendous, but the fun had by the all is well worth it.

Another favourite activity is our play house. This is located under our book loft and provides the children with an imaginative area that represents home. The children love to act out scenes of baking and putting babies to bed.

Story sessions and education

There are quiet areas to look at books and share stories with friends and staff, children learn to respect books and enjoy the content of them. We also have many story sessions with small groups of children. Here we use visual aids such as puppets to enhance the story and the children join in by predicting the outcome and reflecting on the story once it has finished. The children also have opportunities to write their own stories through pictures or early writing skills.

Both pre-school rooms have easy access computers for the children to develop their skills and confidence. We have a variety of programs that promote educational needs and help develop listening, reading and mathematical skills.

We provide a wide range of activities to meet educational needs

The pre-school unit has a qualified nursery teacher who works with our pre-school staff to deliver a broad, stimulating and challenging Early Years Foundation Stage. We offer a reading scheme, phonics (which teaches the children individual letter sounds), number and language activities as well as an exciting range of club activities which includes; science, music, cooking, gym, dance and much more.

With all of these activities to keep the pre-school children busy, we like to let off steam with a well-earned run outside! The children love to play on the bicycles, climb on the climbing frame and play ring games in large groups. This also serves to allow children to explore the surrounding environment, using items such as magnifiers, magnets and bug boxes.

Pre-school children benefit from the use of our smart-board, which is accepted as one of the most versatile interactive whiteboards. The children have quickly grasped the various techniques for the different programmes. The whiteboard offers the facility to project a slideshow of day-to-day nursery activities, which helps to develop children’s self-esteem and sense of identity. EduCare is one of the first private day care settings in the city to provide the whiteboard for the children and we are sure they will benefit from it as they make the move to school.
