At EduCare our principal aim is to create a warm and welcoming environment where all children can play and learn happily. The nursery has been established since1996. In the important early years of life, care and education are inseparably linked and form the basis for children’s social, emotional and intellectual development. At EduCare we are committed to providing the highest quality childcare and early education by working in partnership with parents/carers with regular communication and discussion and helping each child attain his/her full potential and achieve that important head start in life.
Our two EduCare Nurseries each provide a warm and welcoming environment. Both properties have been completely refurbished and equipped to provide spacious, top quality accommodation, complying strictly with the stringent Fire regulations and Welfare Requirements outlined by OFSTED. As a valued Early Years provider, EduCare is aware that high levels of security are a vital concern to parents/carers. EduCare has CC TV cameras at both nurseries to ensure that the premises and car parks are a safe environment for children and adults. We also have additional security with a Biometric Access Control System fitted at both premises. The system has been praised by OFSTED with regards to safeguarding children. Outside, the nurseries enjoy the benefits of fully enclosed gardens with all-weather play areas with soft cushioned safety surfaces . Large private car parks make the delivery and collection of your child both safe and easy. The nurseries are open from 7.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. from Monday to Friday, 52 weeks of the year and closed only at weekends and Bank Holidays. We try to offer a flexible approach to childcare sessions and wherever possible tailor them to meet the needs of the individual parent/carer and child.
The Nursery has a Preferred Nursery Status which is recognised by Children’s Services in Nottingham. This allows EduCare to work in joint partnership, providing an overall service to family members. EduCare has a comfortable and confidential family room where parents and carers can discuss any concerns about their child’s welfare. After school and holiday care for children up to 8 years is also available. In addition, we are also able to take and collect children from local schools. If you have any particular requirements, please do not hesitate to discuss them with us.
We operate a high ratio of staff to children to maintain our commitment to provide the highest quality of childcare. Both nurseries have a Nursery Manager, supported by a Deputy Manager. A Senior Nursery Practitioner is responsible for each room and is assisted by a team of qualified nursery nurses and assistants. In the Pre-School unit of each nursery, a qualified teacher works with small groups of children. The teacher also works closely with nursery staff in the pre-school unit in planning and organising activities. Our Operational Manager supports both nurseries, ensuring that EduCare is providing the best education and care for each child. Staff development is paramount and all nursery assistants are training towards a recognised qualification in childcare. We offer the best training opportunities to our staff so they can provide excellent support in the nursery. We pride ourselves on our staff training and have a high number of 1st aiders who work within the nursery.
At EduCare each child is seen as an individual and their needs are unique to them. EduCare dedicates a key person to work in each room of the nursery. This person will build a special warm and caring relationship with both the child and parent/carer, ensuring that they settle in well at the nursery. The key person will often be the one to provide personal care to reassure the child. The key worker will be there to provide information regarding your child’s development and if you have any concerns or would like to inform us of your child’s development, the key worker will ensure that all nursery staff connected with your child has been informed.
At EduCare we recognise the importance of children enjoying a well balanced diet using plenty of fresh food products. Good nutrition is vital to a child’s health to ensure that their bones are strong and teeth are healthy. All meals are prepared on the premises by our fully trained cooks. Menus are displayed in reception at the start of each week. For each meal, a vegetarian option is always available. Great care is taken to support children with special or cultural dietary needs. We are pleased to discuss any special dietary requirements that your child may have and will out measures into place to ensure that all children’s needs are met.
At EduCare we recognises that some parents would like to have the opportunity to be more involved with their child’s development, so EduCare arrange parent workshops each term. These are held after nursery hours and we provide a free after hour’s childcare for parents attending the workshop. We cover a range of topics which is relevant to our nursery and children. Parent Workshop have been arranged to share some of the major aspects of phonics grounding and teaching learnt from our experiences as part of the Early Reading project. This seemed to be a successful initiative. We have ideas for subjects, but if you have any areas or concerns you would like support with, please do not hesitate to speak the nursery mangers that are co-ordinating this initiative.
EduCare is dedicated to the needs of our children and parent/carers. The relationship is a three way communication and parents/carers are encouraged to be involved in activities in the nursery. Throughout your child’s time with us we will record their journey of learning and development which is unique to them. We offer the opportunity to discuss your entire child’s development at home and in the nursery, so our members of staff are fully supporting your child as he/she grows. Our private family room is used to discuss any concerns or worries you may have. All information provided is confidential. Our members of staff are always available and will encourage you to discuss all those special occasions which are important to you, so we can share and support them with your child. Parent/carers are encouraged to attend parent evenings, parent workshops, our special event throughout the year and to interact with our parent protect pages through this internet site.
There are Main 3 Rooms in the Nursery: BABY'S ROOM, TODDLER'S ROOM, PRE-SCHOOL'S ROOM
Within the Nursery, each age group has its own separately equipped unit so that care and activities can be specifically structured to the needs and developmental stage of the children within that particular age range. Our learning through play philosophy’ offers our babies a wide range of toys, equipment, activities and experiences designed to encourage the development of the young child’s emerging skills i.e. visual, perceptual, social, language, motor, manipulative, hand-eye co-ordination and discovery. Close interaction exists between the nursery staff and the children, to encourage their physical and language development and to create an awareness of the world around them. At this stage, through discussion with parents, we ensure a flexible daily routine built around the sleeping and feeding pattern and developmental stage of each individual baby.
As your child becomes older we offers a clearly defined routine, so that we can provide a purposeful and varied day containing a wide range of fun and learning activities. Our day incorporates both ‘adult-directed’ and ‘child-led’ activities, as well as periods of indoor and outdoor ‘free play’. Activities include: water and sand play; creative play - painting, sticking, art and craft, cooking, modeling; story time; music and movement; nursery rhymes; singing; fine motor play (jigsaws; puzzles, threading, drawing etc); construction toys; outdoor play; ride on toys; news and discussion time etc. We use these play activities to introduce early concepts of counting, colours, shapes etc. Again, because of our high staff/child ratio, our staff are able to work closely alongside the children, discussing and encouraging their activities and so helping to promote their language, observational and physical development. Each child has there own special scrap book. When your child joins the nursery a scrap book will be made. This book will have photos of your child while at nursery and any pictures they might have created. You are welcome at any time to look at the scrap books and you can bring in any pictures you want to be put in or postcards of places you have visited.
The baby unit is for babies aged 6 weeks upwards. We have babies who are not yet mobile and ones who are learning to crawl and take their first steps! We like to create a relaxed homely environment for the babies and follow your babies individual care routine as offered at home. We like to encourage the babies to develop in all areas, and achieve this through providing activities that promote different skills. Activities are deliberately not structured in order to allow them to explore and develop their senses at their own individual pace.We provide a sensory area for the babies, which is out daily. This includes a variety of materials which enables the babies to explore using their senses. The babies are encouraged to take part in physical activities which promote an awareness of the body. We have a ball pool and many fine motor activities to learn how to use their hands and fingers. The babies also join in with many creative and messy play activities. We take prints of the child’s hands and feet and they are encouraged to paint with them both. We provide a wide range of activities for the children to take part in: we use sand, water, corn flour, dough, pasta and these activities are planned weekly. We display the children’s work around the room before we send them home. In the baby unit we enjoy going outside in the garden, depending on the weather. The younger babies relax in pushchairs or play on a picnic rug with toys. The more mobile babies enjoy time on the swings or using the push along toys. In a summer when the sun is shining the babies like to play in the paddling pool. As part of the baby units is a sleep room. The room is quiet and a nice relaxing area with cots or cradles for younger babies. We have sensory equipment such as bubble lamps and relaxing music to make it a calm restful environment.
The toddler unit caters for the energetic age range! The children are now actively mobile and into everything! We work hard to ensure that the toddlers receive a variety of activities throughout the day in order to help them achieve and develop. The children are beginning to establish friendships with their peers and many of them are learning the really difficult concept that is a very difficult skill for the young child to learn. The children learn to take turns and work together through a variety of group activities, such as story time and heuristic play. We like to encourage the children to develop in all areas, and achieve this through providing activities which promote different skills. The activities are a mix of planned play experiences and free play. The planned play experiences encourage the children to work towards particular developmental aims. This is done by an adult playing and encouraging them, while observing and making assessments for the child’s individual needs and what next steps are needed to help them develop. The free play sessions focus on allowing the children to discover things for themselves and explore their environment. In the toddler unit they like to do lots of creative work, which are displayed around the room and collected in art folders ready to go home or put in to the child’s scrap book. We have a sensory area which is readily available for the children to explore various objects which are in baskets. Once babies are more confidently mobile we can start introducing Heuristic play sessions. Elinor Goldschmied developed these; the word ‘heuristic’ comes from the word ‘heurisko’ which means ‘serves to discover’ or ‘gain an understanding of’. This describes exactly what the children are doing they are finding out what different objects are and what they can do. We use an area of the room where other activities will not interfere. We set the tins, baskets and boxes out around the room in small groups with a collection of objects near them. The children enjoy going outside in the garden whatever the weather! They enjoy playing with hoops, balls, using the bikes and climbing the steps to the climbing frame.
Pre-School’s main aim is to prepare children for their move to ‘big’ school. We provide an environment which offers a balance between learning through play and structured educational activities. The children enjoy the numerous creative activities on offer, particularly when they work on projects in small groups! The mess is tremendous, but the fun had by all is well worth it! Another favorite activity for the ‘pre-schoolers’ is our play house. This is located under our book loft and provides the children with an imaginative area that represents home. The children love to act out scenes of baking and putting babies to bed! There is a quiet area to look at books and share stories with friends and staff. Children learn to respect books and enjoy the content of them. We also have many story sessions with small groups of children. Here we use visual aids such as puppets to enhance the story and the children join in by predicting the outcome and reflecting on the story once it has finished. The children also have opportunities to write their own stories through pictures or early writing skills. Both Pre-School rooms have easy access computers for the children to develop their skills and confidence. We have a variety of educational programs which help develop listening, reading and mathematical skills. The Pre-School unit has a qualified nursery teacher who works with our Pre-School staff to deliver a broad, stimulating and challenging Early Years Foundation Stage. We offer a reading scheme, phonics (which teaches the children individual letter sounds), number and language activities a well as an exciting range of club activities which include: science, music, gym and dance, cooking, etc. With all of these activities to keep the Pre-schoolers busy, we like to let off steam with a well- earned run outside! The children love to play on the bicycles, climb on the climbing frame and play ring games in large groups. This also serves to allow children to explore the environment around them, using items such as magnifiers, magnets and bug boxes.
We are pleased to offer this service to children of primary school age. When children arrive after school we can offer them tea, after which they can participate in games and activities organised for them by our staff, or find a quiet area for homework. During the school holidays, we offer a full range of daily activities and outings for this age group. Within the nursery the older children are cared for in a separate area to the under 5’s. Our after-school and holiday care services may be used on a full-time, part-time or occasional basis. Please contact us to discuss your particular requirements and for further information on this service. We also provide a collection service to and from local schools.
Our nursery gardens are specially designed for safety and security. Each one is an enclosed area and the only access is from secured gates. The gardens are large, well-equipped and colourful, allowing nature to play a large part in the development of children’s knowledge. The gardens are also fitted with astro turf. The garden is another play area for the children and our theme is indoors/outdoors. This means we have similar activities in the garden as indoors. We have paint, music, gardening and book areas outside as well as a range of large equipment and a variety of other resources to help develop a child’s gross motor skills. Each garden is checked every morning before the children go out to play. At EduCare, we offer full-time or part-time childcare on a regular or occasional basis for young children between the ages of 6 weeks and 8 years. The nurseries are open from 7.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. from Monday to Friday. We are open 52 weeks of the year and close only at weekends and Bank Holidays. After-school and holiday care for over-5s is also available. In addition, we are also able to take and collect children from local schools. We try to offer a flexible approach to childcare sessions and wherever possible tailor them to meet the needs of the individual parent/carer and child. If you have any particular requirements, please do not hesitate to discuss them with us. Fees can be different for each individual child in order to meet the required sessions/needs. Please call us on 0115 9691700 or email educare2@ukonline.co.uk for any further information and our nursery managers will be happy to talk through the fee structure with you.

Following tax changes to childcare in April 2005, parents can now benefit by avoiding both tax and national insurance on the first £50 per week of childcare costs. For two working parents this means that £5200 per annum of their income is totally exempt from both tax and national insurance – a substantial saving! Many employers are now offering these vouchers in lieu of salary. The employer also saves national insurance although this is offset by the cost of the vouchers and of operating the scheme. There are different types of vouchers including the following: Busy Bees, Accor, Care4, Childcare Options, Childcare Plus/P & MM, , Allsave, , Chambers
What is NEF? NEF is funding to ensure that your child receives a nursery education. The educational sessions must achieve certain defined standards called the Early Learning Goals. When Ofsted inspects a nursery the educational part of the inspection is mainly concerned with ensuring that the NEF sessions meet these goals. A published Ofsted report is therefore a good way of assessing the quality of the NEF sessions which a nursery school delivers. EduCare employs teachers and invests a great deal of effort in planning and delivering a balanced curriculum in order to achieve the highest standards within the Early Learning Goals. We maintain written records of a child's progress and twice a year we hold parents' evenings when you receive a written report and meet the Teacher and Pre-School staff to discuss progress. Our Pre-School staff will be pleased to brief you daily on your child's day and each week you will receive a short written report. As a result of the above both EduCare nurseries have the excellent Ofsted ratings for the overall inspection and also for every category within the inspection. What does NEF provide? NEF is intended to fund up to 5 sessions per week of nursery education for 38 weeks each year for 2 years. Each session is of 3 hours duration i.e. 3 hrs per session over 14 weeks.Who qualifies for NEF? All children qualify from the start of the term after their third birthday. To qualify for a term your child must be 3 by the following dates: - Spring term - 31st Dec, Summer term - 31st March, Autumn term - 31st August. To qualify for the full funding your child must attend for at least 5 sessions of at least 2 ½ hours for the full number of weeks in an NEF duration of term. All children are entitled to NEF - it is not means-tested in any way.
